If you’ve ever been called “too much,” Be Bougie co-founders Kasandra Scales and Allyson Hillard know your pain. “People have called us ‘Bougie’ for having particular interests; from the men we prefer to date, to the standards we set for ourselves in the workplace, all the way down to the type of stationery we like to use,” says Kasandra. In response, the duo created Be Bougie, a line of curated wearables designed for anyone with high standards and a passion for personal development.
The pair – who also work as full-time OB-GYNs (really!) – even earmark 10% of their profits to go towards charitable organizations supporting young women’s confidence and self-worth. With such a powerful mission (and some pretty chic tees, mugs, and visors) Kasandra and Allyson have invested in social media video to develop their business and get the word out about their goals.
“As side hustlers, all of the work and effort we put into our ecommerce business is done when we are not working; which is on our days off, weekends, evenings and post-call days,” says Kasandra. “As full-time working physicians, there is no way we would be able to quickly reach as many customers without Facebook,” says Kasandra. “We connect on a deeper level with our followers via our Book Club using Facebook Groups."
With so many plates spinning, Kasandra and Allyson also rely on the user-friendly Facebook Business Suite to keep everything straight. “With so many resources, it can sometimes feel overwhelming,” says Kasandra. “But having the Facebook Business Suite and the tutorials ready at your fingertips makes each task doable when you are ready to work on it.”
